Our Mission
Susan B. Anthony School helps its students be successful academically and socially by focusing on literacy, encouraging parental involvement, celebrating its rich cultural diversity, and promoting mutual respect for all. Staff are very focused on making every child a reader and every child a writer. All students spend time on computers to strengthen literacy skills, and teachers are learning and utilizing those practices which research has shown to be the most successful in developing those same skills.
All students have access to computers in their networked classrooms. Several stand-alone computers as well as large monitors, VCRs, laser disc players, and cameras are also available to staff and students.
All English-language learners spend time daily in English-language development to increase their fluency with English, and most also receive primary language support. Special education students are integrated whenever appropriate in accordance with their individual education plans. Gifted and talented students are invited to participate in an enrichment program. Team teaching and the pairing of students occur frequently. The preschool and kindergarten teachers work closely together to prepare preschool children for a successful entry into kindergarten.
Susan B. Anthony School is fortunate to have a nurse, a community liaison, and instructional aides as well as access to outside agencies to support its academic program. An extended day program not only supports the school’s literacy efforts, but also provides recreational and enrichment programs.
Susan B. Anthony is also in the process of expanding opportunities for adult education. Susan B. Anthony School Community Center — the result of a partnership between the City of Sacramento, the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA), and the school — will bring community services to the school.
